GroundWork EE - Enterprise Edition

Scalable, highly available, and extensible enterprise monitoring that’s also cost-effective.

GroundWork Monitor Enterprise Edition delivers a highly scalable monitoring platform designed to meet the needs of complex, large and distributed environments. Enterprise Edition provides availability and performance visibility in large, heterogeneous and distributed environments by utilizing industry-standards (SNMP, syslog, WMI) and de-facto standards (NRPE, Nagios plug-ins) for data collection.

GroundWork Monitor Enterprise can serve as a customer’s only network management system or serve as part of an integrated solution for IT Service Management that includes products from a selection of vendors. An Enterprise deployment may integrate the outputs of multiple third party monitoring tools or be easily configured to report its results to the consoles of other major monitoring tool.

      Why choose GroundWork Monitor Enterprise?

Cut through the noise

GroundWork Monitor includes an integrated event engine that applies de-duplication and service dependency mapping to all incoming events. This dramatically reduces false alarms without requiring administrators to maintain complex and arcane rule-sets.

Visualize your whole environment

Powerful visualization tools such as our Seurat View allow you to see the whole environment in a single screen. This enables Operations teams to spot emergent patterns and trends before they affect service levels.

See events as they happen

The included event console provides flexible views based on geographical, technical or business structures, and provides application and service centric event views to users and administrators across the organization.

Automatically achieve complete monitoring coverage

Using server or the optional network topology discovery ensures consistent monitoring is implemented across the entire environment including physical and virtual hardware, operating systems, applications and network devices.

Migrate over time

Enterprise Edition can work alongside your existing monitoring tools to ease migration to the GroundWork platform. Alternatively, Enterprise Edition can provide dashboards and reports that integrate data aggregated from other monitoring tools into a single coherent view.

SERVICE LEVEL MANAGEMENT

GroundWork Monitor’s dashboards and reports enable you to quickly confirmthat IT operations are achieving required levels of quality and service in thefollowing service level management categories:

  • Availability – Availability information is instantly visible in the statusviewer. The automatic service level calculation ensures agreed service
levels are maintained. Elements of the monitored environment can be
combined on a single dashboard to create a business-process specific
view that can be shared with users.
  • Capacity – Trending reports provide the historical data needed topredict future demand and ensure services are provided in the optimal and most cost effective manner.
  • Problem and Incident Management – The event console and statusviewer are designed to provide information in an intuitive and rich interface that minimizes the impact and time to resolution of problems. Event History and Log Exception reports help identify problematic are as and direct preventative maintenance efforts.

CUSTOMIZABLE DASHBOARDS

GroundWork Monitor’s portal design makes it easy to create new pages andviews, share them and lock down access to authorized users. Customizationand control means information is no longer just for system administrators butcan be targeted to other types of users, such as DBAs, network specialists, ormanagers. With the Dashboard Builder you can create dashboards to display only theinformation relevant to a specifi c line of business or business process. Forexample, tailor a dashboard to only display the health of systems theaccounting department depends on.

ACTIONABLE USER INTERFACE

GroundWork Monitor displays monitoring information in aneasy-to-digest,actionable format that assures problems are found and resolved quickly.Data generated by the underlying open source projects is normalized andcombined in the user interface where it is presented in a consistent, logicalmanner.By combining availability information, performance measurements, logmessages and events into a single view GroundWork Monitor enablessupport teams to respond quickly to critical issues. The GroundWorkMonitor portal interface integrates with existing ticketing, knowledgemanagement and confi guration tools to ensure smooth, effi cient hand-offbetween operations, network, application and engineering teams.

DATACENTER INTEGRATION

GroundWork Monitor fulfills the monitoring and event management needs of your enterprise environment and can preserve your existing investments by interfacing with what you already have to create an integrated solution. GroundWork Monitor’s extensible, open source architecture allows for integration with other critical components of the enterprise datacenterecosystem, such as CMDBs, asset tracking systems, help desk applications, optional third-party consoles, and third-party monitors. GroundWork Monitor collects and manages data via secure web services for use in customer portals, enterprise reporting tools, and other applications. The following are examples of GroundWork’s successfully deployed integrations.

Help Desk/ Ticketing System Integration

GroundWork offers bi-directional integration with external help desk or troubleticketing systems such as Remedy or Magic, enabling trouble ticket creationdirect from the GroundWork Monitor Console in response to an event.

Optional Third-Party Console Integration

While GroundWork Monitor includes role-based dashboards and consoles, youmay also wish to use an optional third-party console to display information if your existing processes are heavily linked in. For these scenarios, GroundWorkMonitor can provide information to external consoles via automatic data feeds.

Asset Management/ CMDB Integration

Through a standard API, easily import adds, changes, and deletes from externalCMDB systems to your monitored elements.

Third-Party Monitor Integration

In addition to shipping with a wide assortment of open source monitoring tools,GroundWork Monitor also collects data from proprietary or legacy monitors thatyou may wish to continue using, allowing for a single, consolidated view acrossall your systems, networks, and devices with minimal disruption to existingsystems.

SOLUTION ARCHITECTURE

With GroundWork Monitor, organizations reap the benefi ts of an open sourcemonitoring strategy: excellent coverage, fl exibility, and reliability without theproblems that accompany integrating, confi guring, and maintaining separateprojects on an ongoing basis. Each component of the GroundWork stack is stable, established, well-respected,and supported by an active community that offers improvements, extensions, and features. GroundWork Monitor integrates each project into one easy-todeploypackage, resulting in an end-to-end monitoring solution that offersreporting, graphing, visualization, and confi guration features.

GroundWork Monitor Enterprise is a three-tier software stack based aroundloosely coupled software components that make it easy to deploy the elementsrequired by any environment. The key tiers are:

  • Instrumentation Tier - Scalable and fl exible data collection servicesprovide wide coverage for hardware, operating systems, networks, applications, and services.
  • Normalization Tier - To combine measurements from the instrumentation tier, normalization and deduplication rules are applied to incoming data streams. Incoming data is mapped to state changes within the environment, assuring that users receive actionable alerts with contextual information.
  • Portal Tier - Combines all operations, confi guration, and reporting
functions into an intuitive and fl exible user interface. The portal ensures all users have the information they need to support decision-making, whether they are operators, administrators, managers, or end-users.
